Away

I've been away from this journal for awhile now, one month to be exact. Lots have happened since the Bar exam days, I am far away from home, typing in a hostel in Costa Rica.

I felt the long forgotten freedom two weeks after the Bar exam, it was when I heard the Sea World fireworks from my window. I smiled, instead of wishing that I had the time to be there, it was my choice not to be there.

Traveling always brings one to her thoughts, there always seems to be plenty of opportunities for these private rendezvous.

I look out the bus window and see the lush green land all around us. It is Guatemala City, the very poor parts of it. It's strange that a land can be so blessed yet so cursed at the same time. The land here is rich and fertile, everything around us is green and everything around us is alive. The land provides a sharp contrast to the dilapidated shacks with metal sheets as roofs and doors and the children standing outside of it too poor to go to school. I suppose in every land you see the rich and the poor, but most of the time I wish that the disparity isn't so great.

I fell in love with the people in Guatemala, they are the warmest people I've ever met. Antigua is this cute little town with quaint cobblestone streets, crawling vines on the houses, and a luminous volcano as the backdrop to the city. Every single meal I've had in Antigua is excellent, partly because the lady cooking my meal is also the owner and my waitress, who could not have made me feel more welcome.

I am worlds away. I feel free, joyful, and a little bit melancholy. I wonder why that is.

Took the bar in San Diego. Yes it was hell. The inferno would have been much scarier if Dante had taken the bar.
